After Windows starts, the desktop does not appear and My Documents opens instead
Problem: After Windows starts, the desktop does not appear and My Documents opens directly.
Solution: Type explorer.exe into the address bar in My Documents and the desktop will appear. Then open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. Open the Shell key on the right, set the Value data to Explorer.exe and save.
Note: If regedit does not open, run Combofix and try again. Regedit will open.
After restarting the computer the issue is resolved and the desktop comes up normally.
After this operation it is also a good idea to perform a detailed virus scan on the system..
A screenshot from a computer where I experienced this issue is below.
