If you receive the error “Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running” and Windows Update still does not work even after restarting the Windows Update service, here is the solution:

• Stop the “Windows Update” service in Services.
• Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs and rename or delete the “edb.log” file.
• Start the “Windows Update” service again from Services.

You can now run Windows Update without problems on your computer.
