Mac conversations usually start with “they do not catch viruses” and continue with “but they are very expensive”. These are the two most-remembered points about Apple. Yet there are many details in between.

Starting with this article we will first get to know macOS, share the advantages it offers, and provide tips to make day-to-day work easier. You decide which Apple computer is right for you. A Mac and macOS X are inseparable.

Welcome Mac,

We will not talk about Mac history. First we compare macOS X with systems we are used to, with two small examples of what is possible.

With macOS X you can use Mac versions or equivalents of all the apps you use daily. You can keep editing Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents on your Mac. For internet and email, Safari and Mail accompany you with no usability difference.

macOS, known by cat code names (Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion), has a user-friendly UI, is easy to use and ships with many useful apps.

Desktop: Your work area with the Menu Bar at top and the Dock at bottom.
Finder: Find anything on your Mac and view files in one window.
Dock: Shortcuts to frequent apps and icons of running apps.
Menu Bar: Changes with the active app; right side has Wi-Fi, clock and system items.
Spotlight: Find anything on your Mac; use it as a quick calculator.
